Playing and Musical Interpretation
Schaum’s Purple Book C comprises many short pieces by some famous classical composers such as Schumann, Chopin, & Grieg, some fun Schaum originals such as ‘The Pelican’ & ‘Throwing paper aeroplanes’, and some traditional folk songs (all approx. a grade 2 standard). Tip boxes throughout the book introduce each concept, before a short piece which it is used in. Building on the other concepts used in the first three books, Schaum’s Piano Course Purple Book C introduces trills and other ornaments, the key of Ab major, mood in music, triplets, 2/2 time, cross hand accompaniment and tonal expression. You are also introduced to nationalism in music and many fun stories about composers; this background knowledge is designed to help you make your own interpretation of the piece - a really important part of being a good musician. The music is decorated with many colourful illustrations, and is marked with fingerings, dynamics, articulation, pedalling, performance directions and metronome marks.
Develops your theory and musicianship
Schaum’s Purple Book C contains some useful drills to improve your sight-reading, and a musical dictionary to translate Italian terms. It will build on your theory knowledge learnt in the previous books, and then tests you with 2 piano quizzes that test your general musicianship and musical knowledge. You can complete the certificate of promotion when you have finished this book, announcing that you are ready for the next book in the series!
