Tunes for Ten Fingers is a delightful book for young pianists who are just getting started. It makes learning the piano really enjoyable and engaging, with bright, colourful illustrations and really fun, easy songs using ten fingers!
Learn with exciting, easy tunes!
Tunes for Ten Fingers contains over 50 short songs, written for ten fingers playing one at a time, with really fun lyrics and titles such as ‘Cowboy Joe’, ‘Five little monkeys’ and ‘The haunted house’. You might recognise some of the songs, such as ‘Happy Birthday’, ‘Yankee Doodle’ and ‘Jingle bells’! All the pieces use the ‘5 finger position’ (your hands stay in one place, with one key for each finger and both thumbs on middle C) and it introduces you to one note at a time, with pictures and keyboard diagrams: first the right hand, then the left hand, then both (fingers playing separately), using beautiful full colour illustrations by Caroline Crossland, with fun animal characters for each new note. All the pieces in the Tunes for Ten Fingers book have lyrics to sing along to - singing/talking/clapping through words before playing is a great and intuitive way for young beginners to learn different rhythms! The music is marked with basic dynamics, articulation, fingerings and performance directions. There are also some duets and teacher accompaniments throughout Tunes for Ten Fingers so you can play together.
Fun theory tips & games
Fun theory basics are introduced in Tunes for Ten Fingers before the pieces - note names, note values, how to read and draw notes, and explains clefs, bars, time signatures, note values and rests. It is really interactive, so great for beginners’ learning - there are some fun music games such as ‘Blind Man’s buff’, ‘Guess the note’ and ‘Stepping Stones’, and spaces for you to complete simple questions and practise writing notes.
