‘Getting Started’ and gradual progression
Team Woodwind Saxophone starts you right from the beginning, explaining how to put your saxophone together, then introduces you through fun pieces and games to one note at a time with clear titles, example notations and really clearly labelled saxophone diagrams that tell you which keys to press to sound that note. You will learn different rhythms, time signatures, key signatures, articulation, dynamics, accidentals, scales, arpeggios, and improvisation.
Easy, fun pieces from all sorts of musical genres, with CD
There are pieces from all sorts of genres in Team Woodwind Saxophone: jazz - ‘Pink Panther’, ‘What a Wonderful World’, blues - ‘Blue Monk’, rock/pop - ‘Blowin’ in the Wind’, classical - ‘Morning has Broken’, musicals - ‘Edelweiss’, traditional - ‘Amazing Grace’, film - ‘Star Wars’, nursery rhymes - ‘Three Blind Mice’, world - ‘Caribbean Dance’, and Christmas - ‘Deck the Halls’. It gives you some early opportunities to try jazz/blues improvisation and playing by ear - important skills for saxophonists! The 2 CDs that come with the book contain over 75 backing tracks for you to play along to. Many pieces in the Team Woodwind series are also part of the ABRSM music medals syllabus.
Fun games and tips
Team Woodwind Saxophone has loads of fun listening games - ‘I got rhythm’, ‘Question and answer’, ‘Action replay’ and ‘Hands off’ to improve your listening, rhythm, improvisation and playing by ear, and rhythm grids to practise different rhythms. Speech bubbles around the music throughout the book give you hints and tips, and introduce new notations. There is even a handy page of scales and easy arpeggios in the back!
Fun duets, trios and ensemble pieces!
Team Woodwind for Eb Saxophone has 15 duets and 14 trios for Eb alto and baritone saxophones. Many of these duets can be extended by using the corresponding ensemble parts and supplementary material from the other Team Woodwind books for Oboe, Flute and Bassoon, and the Team Brass and Team Strings books so you can form your first full wind band or orchestra! Some pieces also have an optional piano accompaniment which can be found in the Team Woodwind Accompaniments book (separate purchase).
