If you’re an adult who used to play the piano, then you may remember a lot more than you think! ‘I Used to Play Piano Refresher Course’ is a fast track piano tutor book specifically aimed to refresh your memory to get you playing your favourite piano pieces again in no time.

‘What do you remember?’ & ‘Getting the Fingers Moving Again’

To refresh your memory I Used to Play Piano starts off with brief revisions of rhythm and note reading in the ‘Take Note’ and ‘It’s About Time’ pages followed by a quick ‘What do you remember?’ test (answers in the back). Before starting on the pieces, there is a ‘Getting the Fingers Moving Again’ section, which is a selection of simple exercises using common note patterns to get your fingers used to moving again!

Diverse & progressive collection of your favourite tunes

The pieces in I Used to Play Piano are arranged in to 11 units, covering a really wide range of styles, comprising classical arrangements, classical masterworks, familiar favourites, popular styles (e.g rock, ballad, etc), studies designed to develop technical abilities and jazz, boogie, blues and ragtime. I Used to Play Piano’s diverse collection of compositions will undoubtedly contain some pieces you recognise or used to play, such as Beethoven’s Für Elise and Moonlight Sonata, Joplin’s The Entertainer, Debussy’s Claire de lune, and traditional songs such as Scarborough fair. It starts off with really easy arrangements and gradually progresses in difficulty through 65 pieces to around grade 5 standard. We recommend that you work through the entire I Used to Play Piano book to refresh your memory and reinforce the basics, however you could jump in at any point and advance upwards from there.

Helpful playing tips and info

Every piece in I Used to Play Piano has a key fact box, summarising its key, tempo, dynamics and other features, and all the music is annotated with further advice on notation, hand position, and articulation. In the back, there is a useful glossary of common Italian musical terms, which covers tempo, dynamics, articulation, performance directors & general musical terms, and an ‘About the Composers and Arrangers’ section to improve your musical knowledge.
