ABRSM grade 1 piano 2013-14 pieces
The ABRSM Grade 1 Piano 2013-14 book contains 9 selected pieces from the 2013-14 ABRSM piano grade 1 exam syllabus, covering a wide range of styles, including a ballet, a classical fugue and an arrangement of the jazz classic ‘Chattanooga choo choo’. There are 3 pieces from each of the lists A, B and C included in the ABRSM Grade 1 Piano book - you have to choose one from each list for your first ABRSM practical exam. This 2013-2014 syllabus is valid from 1 January 2013 until the end of the spring 2015 exam period in the UK, and until 31 December 2015 in all other countries. Most students just choose pieces from this book for their ABRSM exam, however there is also a list of alternative pieces to choose from in the front of the book. Recordings of all the grade 1 pieces are available as part of the ABRSM Grade 1 Piano Book with CD or on a separate CD.
Other requirements and tips
The music in the ABRSM Grade 1 Piano book is clearly printed and consistently marked with editor’s fingerings, dynamics, articulation, metronome marks and performance directions, and there is also a handy list of grade 1 scales and arpeggios you will need to know in the front. The ABRSM Grade 1 Piano 2013-14 book also includes brief notes on each piece and its composer and translations of non-English titles to help you put pieces in context, and has a cool new design.
The sections of your exam
Your grade 1 piano exam is made up of four sections: three pieces chosen by you from this repertoire book (ABRSM Piano Exam Pieces Grade 1 Book), scales and broken chords, sight-reading, and aural tests.
