A Dozen A Day Book Two is a simple piano exercise book with dozens of short, fun studies to warm up with before doing your piano practice.
Fun finger exercises
Warming up is a vital part of any piano practice, just like sports practice!A Dozen A Day Book Two is full of simple warm up pieces (grade 2 standard) to do before practising, all no more than 12 bars long and named after actions like ‘Sliding Down the Bannister’, ‘Somersaults’, and ‘Walking Like a Duck’, with fun stick men illustrations. Learning studies like this will develop flexible hands and strong fingers - 2 crucial ingredients to good piano playing. The music is marked with fingerings, articulation, pedalling, and some performance directions
Bite sized chunks
A Dozen A Day Book Two is split into 5 chapters of a dozen exercises labelled 1-12. It gradually introduces slightly harder technical aspects than the previous book, such as notes on leger lines, glissandi (slides down the piano notes), demisemiquavers, and pedalling. You can steadily work through each dozen, mastering 2 or 3 exercises before adding more, until you can play the whole dozen as a practising warm-up.
Progressive technique development
The techniques in the Elementary A Dozen A Day Book Two progress from the previous book - you start with two hands an octave apart, then soon move on to playing chords in both hands, and alternative hand positions. The chapters get progressively harder, so you will improve technically as you work your way through the book - each chapter ends with a final piece called ‘Fit as a fiddle and ready to go’, concluding that chapter so you can start practising! It encourages you to transpose the studies into different keys when you have finished the book, so you can continue doing a dozen a day before practising!
