Product Description by our Music Experts
A Dozen A Day Mini Book is a great technical exercise book for beginner pianists, introducing you to warming up before practising with dozens of short, fun studies.
Good warm up for beginners
Warming up is a vital part of any piano practice, just like sports practice! This A Dozen A Day Mini Book is full of really easy (pre-grade 1) warm up pieces that are only 4 bars long, to do before practising, all named after actions like ‘Skipping on a Sunny Day’, ‘The Splits’, and ‘Tight Rope Walking’, with fun stick-men illustrations. Learning studies like this will develop flexible hands and strong fingers. The music is marked with fingerings and some tips, and some songs have words for you to sing along!
Bite sized chunks
The Dozen A Day Mini Book is split into 5 chapters of a dozen exercises labelled 1-12, which cover easy chords, accidentals, slurs and staccato articulation, and simple quaver, crotchet, and minim & semibreve rhythms. You can gradually work through each dozen, mastering 2 or 3 exercises before adding more, until you can play the whole dozen as a practising warm-up.
Progressive technique development
Pieces in the A Dozen A Day Mini Book start with one finger at a time in the five finger position (both thumbs on middle C), then bring in left hand crossovers, ending with two hands/fingers playing at a time! The chapters get progressively harder, so you will improve technically as you work your way through the boo and as each chapter ends there is a final piece called ‘Fit as a fiddle and ready to go’, concluding that chapter so you can start practising! You are encouraged to transpose the studies into different keys when you have finished the book, so you can continue doing a dozen a day before practising!
